Tucci in Italy Television series

The Mustilli winery, located in the Sannio (Sant’Agata de’ Goti), was featured on Tucci in Italy. The Naples and Campania episode (Season 2, Episode 1) is about how the Falanghina wine was created by Leonardo Mustilli in Sant’Agata de’ Goti only fifty years ago (last segment of the episode, starting at the 37:30 minute mark).

Several segments of the episode showed how what are now prized delicacies were born from difficult conditions: the now iconic buffalo mozzarella was once considered only fit for the poor because buffalo were considered undesirable; a pasta dish tasting of clams was made using rocks from the sea rather than actual clams. Similarly, Falanghina was created from a grape that was native to the area but was used merely as one of a number of other grapes in cheap, bulk wine. The grape might have easily been lost if not for Leonardo Mustilli’s determination to focus on making wine form native grape varieties.

The Mustilli winery also happens to be where we stay, have our welcome dinner, tour the historic cellar, have a wine tasting, and often have a cooking class.
